About the Charities
The Pied Piper Appeal
Initially created in 1992 to fund a new children’s hospital for the county, the Appeal now reaches out to help sick children from across Gloucestershire in many different ways.
The hard work of thousands of Pied Piper supporters has raised over £2million to date. The funds have been used to build the new Children’s Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, refurbish and revitalise the children’s ward at Cheltenham General Hospital, purchase new equipment, enhance hospital environments and help individual children to make life at home easier with hoists and other equipment.
But the work cannot stop here. Medical advances mean that new and specialised services are continually becoming available and should be offered to our local children. Yet this puts a greater demand on the resources of the NHS in Gloucestershire and it needs our support. We need help to build a better future for children in sickness and pain across the county.

Cruse Bereavement Care
Cruse Bereavement Care is the largest bereavement charity in the UK. Founded in 1959 it exists to help anyone affected by death to understand their grief and cope with their loss. Gloucestershire Cruse, based in Cheltenham, has a team of over 80 volunteers working on a voluntary basis to assist people in all parts of the County.
People approach Cruse because someone they know has died. They may have lost a husband, wife, partner, child, relative, or a close friend. They want someone who will listen and help them cope with their grief and pain.
Anyone can contact Cruse, there is no fixed charge, but we rely on donations in order to carry on our work. We provide the opportunity to talk, in confidence, with a trained volunteer, whilst our groups offer bereaved people the chance to talk with others in similar circumstances. There are currently groups in Cheltenham and Gloucester and the aim is to build further groups across the County. Cruse also supports parents who want to know how best to respond to children and teenagers who have been affected by a death.
The money raised on behalf of Cruse at the Show will enable Gloucestershire Cruse to train further volunteers specifically for the County. In the past year we have offered help to over 600 clients and our resources are continually stretched by the increasing awareness of the service that we offer and the value it provides.
